F-16s have been on Ukraine's wish list for a long time because of their destructive power and global availability. "We are planning to donate Norwegian F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, and will provide further details about the donation, numbers and time frame for delivery, in due course," Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere said in a statement. "The donation of these F-16 jets will significantly strengthen Ukraine's military capabilities," Norway's Defence Minister Bjoern Arild Gram said in the statement.

Ukraine has long called on Western allies to supply F-16 jets to aid in resisting Russian attacks. While allies including the US have agreed to provide the jets, pilot training has been delayed. Ukrainian troops won't be ready to fly the jets until next summer due to the delays, WaPo reported. President Joe Biden, who had staunchly opposed sending F-16s to Ukraine, in May reversed course and backed the idea of training Ukrainian troops to pilot the jets. The delays in training mean that Ukrainian pilots will be unable to use F-16s provided by allies until next summer, the outlet reported — unless another training pathway is provided.

OSLO, July 6 (Reuters) - Norwegian Air (NAS.OL) has agreed to buy domestic peer Wideroe for 1.13 billion crowns ($106 million) as the reborn airline looks to strengthen its position in its home region. "The transaction is expected to provide significant benefits for travellers, employees and shareholders, and to strengthen the combined Norwegian and Wideroe as a key part of critical domestic infrastructure," Norwegian Air said in a statement. An important part of the regional infrastructure, Wideroe owns 40 Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft, and three Embraer E190-E2 jets, with seat numbers in each plane ranging from 39 to 110. The deal comes only two years after Norwegian Air emerged from bankruptcy protection with a smaller fleet and its debt almost wiped out, having raised cash. Norwegian Air said the two carriers had very limited overlap on routes, and it saw potential annual synergies from the acquisition of 200-300 million crowns ($18.8-28.2 million).

OSLO, June 12 (Reuters) - Mondelez International (MDLZ.O), facing a widening corporate boycott in the Nordic region over its continued presence in Russia, said late on Sunday it had asked to meet with the Norwegian government to protect its local business. Airlines SAS and Norwegian Air, railway group SJ, hotel chain Strawberry, retailer Elkjop, shipping group Fjord Line and the Norwegian Football Association were among those announcing in recent days that they would stop selling Mondelez products. Although some Western companies sold their Russian assets after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine last year, others such as Mondelez have stayed despite pushback from employees in other countries. Nordic companies said their decision stop selling Mondelez products was based on an announcement this year by Ukraine's National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption to blacklist the snack maker and other groups. Mondelez said it maintained "limited" activity in Russia while halting investment and advertising, and had condemned the war.
